Mission

Our mission is to educate and empower Latinas by sharing technical knowledge, business skills, and entrepreneurship resources through hands-on workshops, strategic partnerships, and community events.

#LatinaGeeks is a nonprofit organization with chapters across the western United States. Our chapters are led by volunteers who are the heart and soul of the organization; their contributions and leadership critical to fulfilling our mission. Lead volunteers play a vital role in helping to create an organizational culture to support and empower women in technology while also fostering global citizens and powerful agents of change here in the United States.

Vision

Since August 2012, our vision has been to make an impact and encourage technology adoption within the community to increase the number of Latinas in technology-related careers.

History

LaLa Castro and Tanya Salcido were brought together by a common passion — the love of technology and all things digital. With backgrounds in marketing, E-commerce, and social media marketing, these two early adopters of tech discovered a lack of tech-related resources for Latina-focused communities online. It was at that pivotal moment #LatinaGeeks was born.

Founded in 2012, LaLa and Tanya created the first-of-its-kind community and media resource to empower and inspire Latinas by spreading the knowledge of technology, social media, and entrepreneurship. LatinaGeeks.com reviewed technology trends, gadgets, social media, and featured local Latinas leaders making an impact in their communities.

In the fall of 2017, #LatinaGeeks team introduced hands-on coding workshops to their list of resources, among other educational workshops. Due to the success and the demand for workshops from our community, #LatinaGeeks became a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Today we have chapters in Los Angeles and San Diego.
