Get ready to triple your time on Instagram with their shoppable posts feature. The shopping experience allows major brands, and small businesses, to easily connect with customers through organic posts.

Instagram and Shopify have been testing the feature since 2016 and it’s officially gone global now available in 9 countries.

Are you ready to get started with shopping on Instagram? Here are a few tips from Instagram.

How to get approved for shoppable posts
  1. You must be located in one of these countries the United States, Canada, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, or Australia to be approved for shopping.
  2. You’ll need an Instagram business account. Here’s the steps to take to convert your personal profile.
  3. Make sure your business complies with Instagram’s merchant agreement and commerce policies to sell physical goods.
  4. Connect your business profile to a Facebook catalog. This can be created and managed through your Business Manager, through Shopify or BigCommerce platforms or directly on your business’s Page on Facebook.

Your account will be reviewed and can take a few days after following the above steps. If your account is approved, you’ll receive a notification from Instagram and will be able to turn on product tagging through Settings.

After receiving the notification, create at least nine shopping posts on your Instagram business profile to activate the Shop tab for your audience and tag multiple products to help your audience explore and browse. Take advantage of Stories to show your audience that they can now shop your posts and leverage different shopping formats, such as tag a single image or a carousel. Make sure each tag touches the correct product, so shoppers know which product the tag refers to.

Some things to keep in mind

If you delete a product from the catalog you are using with shopping on Instagram, the associated tag will be removed from any Instagram posts the product is tagged in. You’ll also lose insights for the associated tag that’s been deleted.

When you switch the catalog you are using with shopping on Instagram, your existing product tags won’t be moved, deleted, or changed. You can switch the catalog you want to use with your shopping posts by going to Shopping under Settings in your Instagram app.

If a product is out of stock, the associated product tag will be removed. Currently, the product tag won’t reappear when the product comes back into stock.
