Community Leader, Entrepreneur, First-generation Mexican American:
Ms. Velasquez is a Regional Staffing Manager for the Navy on the West Coast and has been in HR for over 15 years. She is also the CEO of Good Grace Consulting, providing one on one career coaching to women and providing workshops for job readiness. She’s a recipient of a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership, a Graduate Certificate in Human Resources Development, and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science both from Chapman University.
A servant leader in the community, she served as the President of the National Latina Business Women Association – San Diego (NLBWA) (2015-2019), an organization that is committed to advancing women in business. During her time as the President, she developed workshops and programs that provided education for women in entrepreneurship and career advancement. Career Readiness was offered as a series in the community and to the members – due to the huge response, she eventually turned her program into a business opportunity, now called Good Grace Consulting.
She’s a proud Latina! She is first-generation on her father’s side who is from Aguascalientes, Mexico, and second-generation on her mother’s side from Leon, Guanajuato. Her parents were a statistic, her father came here illegally as a young man and had been deported multiple times – he lost count of how many times! And her mother had her at a very young age, but despite the odds – she conquered the statistics and stereotypes and became the first in her family to graduate from college, all with the support of her family championing for her! This impacted her life and a reminder to her, to never get comfortable and not forget where she came from! Her father became a citizen a few years ago and runs a successful construction company, and her mother is retired and lives a fruitful life in San Diego.
When she’s not coaching, she also enjoys serving at her church and helping those in need.
