Unveiling Opportunities with SDG&E and SoCalGas Recap

#LatinaGeeks partnered once again with SoCalGas and SDG&E on November 11th for an engaging presentation: “Pathways to Success: Unveiling Opportunities with SDG&E and SoCalGas.”

Information Technology is made up of a variety of departments that help ensure the day-to-day technological success of all SDG&E and SoCalGas operating groups. Associates and interns in IT have the opportunity to work side-by-side with industry experts and utilize leading technologies to help maintain and analyze company software, monitor around the clock for incidents and cybersecurity threats, and support our workforce in person and remotely across our service territory.

👩🏽‍💻 IT Internship Program

Our first presenter, Erick Orantes spoke about the IT Internship Program and shared his experiences. Erick spoke about his challenges and outcomes with his  Enterprise Architecture projects as well as the resources provided in the internship program to help him be successful.

  • Program is 10-12 weeks
  • Meaningful assignments, training, and mentorship
  • Need to be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s
  • STEM Majors preferred
  • Opportunities in San Diego and Los Angeles

🤝 IT Associate Program

Alec Xian then spoke about the IT Associate Program. He highlighted his perspective working in Identity Access Management, as well as his experience with the mentorship program and his involvement with the ERGs.

  • 70% Rotation Assignments and 30% Associate Program Leadership
  • Need to be graduating from a 4-year University or have previously obtained a Bachelor’s/Master’s
  • STEM Majors preferred

👩🏽‍🎓 Alumni Career Paths

Guadalupe Talavera Reyes shared her experience as an alumna of the IT Associate program and her career journey with SoCalGas as a Software Team Lead. Amanda Bui also shared about her time in the IT Associate Program and how the skills learned helped her to where she is now in her career as an IT Associate and Intern Program Lead
